I purchased this full size headboard and footboard for $25, thinking I would refinish it and put on craigslist to flip. But after I got it, i decided it was too much work...so I just held onto it for a couple of weeks...
** also note the awesome 6' work bench and 8" peg board behind the bed...i purchased these off craigslist for $30. I also have a table saw (with saw) for $20...it is not pictured tho...
Then i found a project...
Here is the headboard. You can see the already cut footboad behind the headboard.

Here is the foot board. I cut each end to be 17".
I attached with wood screws and wood glued the footboard halves to the sides of the headboard. The footboard now becomes the arms of the bench.
I built a frame using 2x2 (curb find, free) wood.
I then added the seat, just to see how it would look. i didn't attach the slats, i just laid them on the seat frame. I didn't like the wood, so i tossed it - (the wood was a free curb find). Then i decided to sit on it and try it out...it was too flimsy. The seat frame was too thin. I had to take it apart and rebuild it.
This is the new frame built with a sturdy wood. I used 2x4 for this. I went to home depot and bought the wood from the cull bin. The cull bin is discounted wood or cut pieces of wood. I paid $1.02 for the wood that made this frame. You can actually see the .51 cost that the Home Depot worker wrote on the wood.

Here is the construction of the 2x4 seat frame. The slats are 1x4 and are spaced equally with a ruler. I purchased the two 1x4 pieces of wood from the cull bin. Total for the slats cost $1.02.
I then primed and painted the bench. It is a faint green color. I purchased the paint from the Home Depot Oops paint. Oops paint is paint the was mixed wrong or a customer returned. If you are not picky about your colors, you can get great bargains like this. One gallon is $5.
I didn't like the green. I sanded it a little and repainted it this almost black color. It was Oops paint from Home Depot.
I spent $25 (headboard/footboad) $5 (light green paint) $5 (almost black paint) $2.04 (wood) = $37.04
